Trinidad and Tobago is a tiny twin island republic of 1.3 million multi-ethnic people. The islands in West Indies, which have something for every visitor, are home of carnival, steel bands, limbo dancing and, of course, calypso. Trinidad is the larger and livelier of the islands, while Tobago is more serene.
Port of Spain, the capital of Trinidad and Tobago, is encircled by verdant green hills. Modern skyscrapers dot the city while mosques exist by the side of cathedrals. San Fernando is another important town of the island. Pitch Lake, a 90 acre waterbody of asphalt is the destination of most tourists.
Tobago has number of picturesque beaches, each with its own speciality. Buccoo Reef, an extensive coral reef, is very popular among the tourists. Pigeon Point on the southwest coast is also known for its lively appearance.
Trinidad and Tobago is the home of several world-class players including record breaking cricketer Brian Lara and star football strikers Dwight Yorke, and Hasely Crawford.
Best beaches in the island republic are on the northern coast of Trinidad. The beaches are known for their sand and clean blue-green water. Northern Range, carpeted by forest, acts as a backdrop. The beaches are specially good for those who want peaceful holidays. The islands present some interesting adventure activities. Although the beach admirers accustomed to azure water and milky white sand of coral islands may find the beaches here a little different, they have their own ways to fascinate the visitors.
Trinidad and Tobago is the birthplace of calypso music. The place also invented steelpan, only acoustic musical instrument invented during the 20th century. It is known for cultural and religious diversity, which is the reason of so many festivities and ceremonies. Famous limbo dance is observed by Trinidad and Tobago inhabitans with enthusiasm. The artistic scene is also colorful.
