Austria is a country enriched with a wide variety of mountain region of Alps. Only 40% area of Austria is covered by woodlands and forests. Neighbours of Austria are Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia. Danube is the principal river of Austria. It's a landlocked country ( no coast line) divided in 9 different federal provinces.

Austria is located in a temperate climatic zone with Central European climate influenced by the Atlantic climate. Austrian climate is defined as temperate continental climate. Austria experiences four seasons (Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter) each having typical temperature and climatic characters. The weather in Austria is particularly changeable and the wind, especially in Vienna can be bitterly cold. Summers are generally warm and pleasant with cool nights, winters are sunny with frequent snowfalls. In autumn and spring, certain Alpine valleys are subject to a warm and dry wind called foehnin.

About 73% of the Austrian population follows Roman catholic religion. Protestants are also in Austria but their percentage is quite less. Remaining population belongs to the Eastern orthodox church and jewish community. People in Austria are quiet flexible and well mannered. Austrians can best be described as friendly yet somewhat reserved, softly spoken, well-mannered and socially conservative. Austrians like to spend time in eating, drinking and enjoying with friends in a cozy environment. Austrians are very hospitable.

Languages in Austria
German is the official language of Austria.German is most widely spoken language and considered as the mother tongue of Austria. Of the approximately 8 million inhabitants of Austria, 98% speak German. The language also varies from dialect to dialect and there are many regional languages popular in Austria. All the dialects of the country belong to Austro-Bavarian groups of German dialects and Alemannic dialects. Slovene is an official language in the southern province of Carinthia. Other minority languages include Croatian (0.5%) and Hungarian (0.1%). Another minority language is Slovak. English is also widely spoken in almost every part of the country.
